A senior diplomat said on Tuesday that "Israel" is trying to convince delegates to the UN General Assembly to stay away from the chamber when the president of archenemy Iran addresses the gathering. "A few days ago, he gave a new speech of hate," "Israel's" UN ambassador Gabriela Shalev told army radio, referring to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who on Friday again called the Holocaust a "myth" in statements that sparked outrage in Western countries and Russia.
"The simple fact of leaving the room during his speech, or not to be present during it, is a symbolic act," Shalev said. "We are not trying to get promises (of a boycott) from the countries with whom we are talking. We are simply reminding them of how dangerous this person and the country that he leads are.
Ahmadinejad has often caused international condemnation with remarks that archfoe "Israel" is doomed to be "wiped off the map" and that the Holocaust was a "myth," a statement that he repeated on Friday.
